We're hiring: Head Guide

Hey everyone, we run a guiding business out of Canberra where we take small groups of people on multi-day camping-based trips in the Snowies.

We’re looking for a Head Guide to lead and manage our on-the-ground operations. This is a full-time role where you will be responsible for making our trips run smoothly and ensuring our clients have the best possible experience. The position includes about 100 days of guiding per year and 12 weeks of annual leave to ensure plenty of time for personal adventures. It’s perfect for a seasoned outdoor professional looking for a stable, long-term position in the outdoor industry. Salary starts at $70,000/annum + 12% super.

Our ideal candidate is someone who:

• Has extensive multi-day hiking and guiding experience.

• Has proven experience in training, mentoring, or leading other guides.

• Is highly organised with a knack for logistics, gear management, and creative problem-solving.

• Has excellent communication and documentation skills.

• Has a strong understanding of, and experience with, ultralight gear.

• Holds current and relevant first aid qualifications (e.g., Wilderness First Aid).

• Lives in or is willing to move to Canberra.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead and guide multi-day hikes for approximately 100 days per year, setting the standard for safety and client experience.

• Train, mentor, and develop new and existing guides.

• Oversee the management, maintenance, and repair of all company field equipment.

• Develop and maintain in-house documentation, including operational procedures, risk assessments, and trip notes.

• Assist with trip development, including itinerary scouting and refinement.
