Trainees undertake a paid 18 month program designed to develop your character, conviction and competence in Christian ministry, under the leadership of seasoned youth and children’s ministers. Trainees also receive training towards a nationally-recognised Certificate III in Outdoor Leadership, providing the necessary skills for this special ministry platform. After completion of your traineeship, you will be considered for a permanent position on the Christian Outdoor Education staff, with a range of professional development options. 

What do I need to apply?

As you’d expect, outdoor ministry requires a minimum level of physical fitness and ability in order to safely lead the groups in your care. Along with being up for overnight expeditions, a love of heights, and confidence in swimming and hiking is a must! The training period involves some rigorous physical activity. Many applicants are already very fit and healthy; others may need to raise their base level strength and fitness before starting employment in the program.

During the 18 months trainees complete a Cert III qualification in outdoor leadership, which covers the skills to run specific outdoor activities like abseiling, canoeing, etc.
